Randel Christmann was born on June 16, 1960 in Hazen, North Dakota.〔〔 He graduated with a Bachelor of Administration from North Dakota State University in 1982.〔〔〔〔
A rancher, he served in the North Dakota Army National Guard from 1977 to 1983.〔〔〔〔 He has been a member of the North Dakota Senate since 1995 and Assistant Majority Leader since 2001.〔
He sits on the Boards of Directors of West River Telecommunications and the North Dakota Association of Telecommunications Cooperatives.〔〔〔〔 He is Vice President of the Lignite Research Council.〔 He is a member of the National Rifle Association, the American Farm Bureau Federation, the North Dakota Stockmen's Association.〔 In 2007, he received the Public Service Award from the North Dakota Petroleum Marketers Association.〔(North Dakota Petroleum Marketers Association recipients )〕
He is married to Bethanie Christmann.〔〔 They live in Hazen and attend Peace Lutheran Church.〔〔
